Annual Appeal 2021 - 2022

We are very excited to start our Annual Appeal and continue to build our resources to help support our wonderful school.

What is the Annual Appeal?

The Annual Appeal is the yearlong fundraising campaign for the PA of PS196Q; it is the single largest funding source for our PA. The Annual Appeal fully funds over 50% of our programs while partially funding all others.

Why is the Annual Appeal Important?

PS196Q does not receive any additional funding from the Department of Education (besides what it needs to cover its operating expenses). Many of the programs that make the school experience rich and unique, are funded by the PA. For example, the PA funds and plans author visits for all grades, performing arts programs, schoolwide holiday events, wellness programs, and fun assemblies. These are among the programs that make the PS196 experience a memorable one for our children. The PA also builds our community; from school parties to helping support Fifth Grade graduation related expenses, the PA brings families together across grades. Programs like these would not be possible without your generous contribution to the Annual Appeal!

By donating to the Annual Appeal, you can also be your child’s hero!

The class with the largest collective amount raised will receive a classroom party from the PA! And believe us, your kids love their class parties!

This year, we plan to hold as many community-building events as we can. We are just as ready as you are to re-engage in-person (health guidelines permitting)! Over the school year, you can expect to hear from us about events that we are planning through your donations. We invite you to email us your ideas for school events, as well.

How Much Should I Give?

To maintain all of our current programs, we have set a fundraising goal for the year. To meet this goal, we are hoping to raise $50.00 per child, which comes out to be less than $1 per day, per child during the school year. Of course, donations are completely voluntary and any amount, no matter how large or small, would be greatly appreciated!

How Can I Donate?

★ You may donate using Venmo (@PAofPS196Q). Venmo donations are strongly encouraged! Please describe your donations as “PAofPS196Q Annual Appeal.” Be sure to include your child’s name and class number.

★ You may donate with a check made payable to PA of PS196Q. Be sure to label your envelope “Annual Appeal” and include name and class number. You can put it in your child’s folder and the teacher will deliver it to the PA mailbox. If you have more than 1 child in the school, make sure you list each one and their class number so that both classes can get credit for your donation.

CONTRIBUTIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE

The PA has 501(c)(3) non-profit status so your contribution is tax-deductible, and amounts will never be publicly disclosed. The PA will provide you with a detailed tax exemption letter for your records.

Don’t forget to check whether your employer has a MATCHING GIFT PROGRAM, as you may be able to increase or even double your donation. The PA participates in employer match programs through Parent Booster/Guide Star as well as Benevity Causes.

We are extending the deadline for the Annual Appeal until 01/31/2022.  At that time we will announce the classrooms with the highest amount of funds raised toward our Annual Appeal.  Winning classrooms will enjoy parties on the 100th day of school!
