April TGI Friday International Night Congratulations Spirit Wear School Pak Box Tops PA Meetings

Welcome Spring!

The Parents Association would like to start off by congratulating our Principal, Ms. Migliano on being honored at the 7th Annual Women’s History Month celebration hosted by Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz. Your school is honored and proud to have you as our principal.

As our children come back to school after their Spring break, the Parents Association has a few amazing things in store for them this month.

We would also like to thank and congratulate Stacey Shackford and Lauren Timmons, and all amazing parent volunteers who brought our PS196 Spotlight Magazine to life. We know the countless hours you worked on this wonderful issue and we are very grateful and in awe! This long awaited Spotlight Magazine went home right before the spring break. It is such a fun read, with the "Spotlight" on the talents of our amazing students. If you haven’t seen the issue already, please click on this link

Want to see some improvements to our school, then please vote and help decide on how $120,000 that is distributed from the New York City Participatory Budget (PB) to our City Council District (Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Rego Park, Richmond Hill) should be spent. This year's ballot includes water fountain upgrades and water bottle fill stations for our school. Voting will take place from Saturday, April 7th to Sunday, April 15th. People can vote online, at Council Member Koslowitz’s office and various pop-up sites. Please vote so P.S. 196 can have the best chance possible to win funds for these needed upgrades. For more information on how to vote and where to vote, please click here.

Our monthly Family Fitness Fundays continue on Sunday, April 15th with Zumba. Come and join us for some exercise, dancing and fun. Kids love Zumba! Click here to sign up.

The PA has teamed up yet again with Ridgewood Savings bank to teach our youngest 196’ers about saving money. Our kindergarteners, and first and second graders will get to visit the Ridgewood Savings bank bus (which will be parked right outside of the school) to learn about money.

To continue our successful monthly restaurant fundraisers, we have partnered with Friday’s on Austin Street for our April fundraiser. It will be held on Wednesday, April 25th. We hope that many families of PS196 can participate. Make sure to bring the flyer so a percentage of what you spend is given back to the school. Click here to download the flyer

Mark your calendars! On Sunday, April 29th from 4pm-7pm, the Parents Association will be hosting their annual International Night. This is a great event for our students and their families to get a taste of the cultures in our school. If you would like to represent a country for International Night, please contact the Parents Association’s Vice President, Deepali Patel-Sagar @ Click here for more information on this amazing night.

Just in time for Mother’s Day, on May 11th we will proudly be hosting our second annual plant sale where the students and families can purchase beautiful plants for all of their loved ones. The event will start at the beginning of the day and last until 2:00pm. All children will be visiting the Mother’s Day plant sale throughout the day (more information to come shortly). If you’d like to volunteer your time at our plant sale, please reach out to Dina Halili @

Want to make life a bit easier and have your child’s school supplies delivered to your home? Throughout the school year, many students have been bringing from home box tops that they cut off of various types of groceries. Please keep sending them in. Click here for a sheet your child can use for their box tops.

Our April Parents Association meeting will take Place on Tuesday, April 17th at 7:30pm in the school cafeteria.

Here are a few ways to get involved with the PA:

*Volunteer- We love when parents get involved. Without the help of parent volunteers, we would not be able to do the amazing events that we do for the students of 196. If you have some spare time, please consider volunteering! Reach out to us at if you interested in helping with an event or if you have an idea for a fundraiser. We depend on parent support and volunteers to make great things happen for our children.

*Donate- Every bit helps. Donations allow us to give back to our children in meaningful ways, whether it’s supporting our amazing after school program, author visits or throwing our amazing Halloween and Valentine’s dance parties. We are so grateful for all the support on our Annual Appeal thus far! We will keep you updated at the next PA meeting.
