April

Wow! In less than two months our children will be ending another year of school!

So many wonderful memories to reflect upon. This year flew by so fast! What a great turnout we had for International Night 2018! An amazing time was had by all. It was a triumphant evening that would not be possible without the help of the parent volunteers that helped set up for the evening and those that hosted a country. The amount of food donated was more than we expected and our families got to taste foods of many countries & cultures around the world. The Parents Association would like to thank each and every participant for all their hard work.

Our monthly Family Fitness Fundays continue on Saturday, May 12th with basketball. Come and join in on the fun with a great workout starting at 10am, followed by a bagel brunch. For flyer, click here

Just in time for Mother’s Day, on May 11th we will proudly be hosting our 2nd Annual Mothers Day Plant sale where the students and families can purchase beautiful plants for all of their loved ones. The event will start at 8am and will end at 3pm. This is a Fun Friday- so we are hoping to see many of our Parents in the morning. All children will be visiting the Mother’s Day plant sale throughout the day. Please don’t forget to send in money with your child to pick out their plants. We are also accepting presell orders- please click here for more info. The PA is looking for volunteers for the day of the plant sale, if you are available to help, please email the PA Co-Secretary Dina Halili @ secretary@pa196.org

On May 3rd the Parents Association/Wellness committee is hosting a cooking class as a parent/child workshop. We are celebrating Every Healthy Week. This is limited to the first 50 families that signed up. This event will take place in the Cafeteria from 6:30-8:00pm. What a great way to spend the evening with your children!

On May 7th-the PA is hosting a Game Show Assembly for all students in all grades. This is surely to be a big hit amongst all the students!

May 15th and 16th- We will be having our last Wellness in Schools Labs program for grades 4 and 5. Please encourage your child to try something healthy and new during their lunch period for the day. Such a Joy!

Our May Parents Association meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 15h at 7:30pm in the school cafeteria. We will be taking nominations for the PA Board for the 2018-2019 school year. If you are interested in any position on the board or the SLT (School Leadership Team), please send in your nomination letter or come to the meeting. Remember you do not need to be present to be nominated.

Also a big THANK YOU to the parents that have taken the time out of their busy schedules to help the Parents Association with their many activities. Without you we wouldn’t be able to make any of this successful.

Our May Parents Association meeting will take Place on Tuesday, May 15th at 7:30pm in the school cafeteria.

Here are a few ways to get involved with the PA:

*Volunteer- We love when parents get involved. Without the help of parent volunteers, we would not be able to do the amazing events that we do for the students of 196. If you have some spare time, please consider volunteering! Reach out to us at info@pa196.org if you interested in helping with an event or if you have an idea for a fundraiser. We depend on parent support and volunteers to make great things happen for our children.

*Donate- Every bit helps. Donations allow us to give back to our children in meaningful ways, whether it’s supporting our amazing after school program, author visits or throwing our amazing Halloween and Valentine’s dance parties. We are so grateful for all the support on our Annual Appeal thus far! We will keep you updated at the next PA meeting.

*Visit our website www.PA196.org

We update information daily on not just what’s going on with the Parents Association but also on what’s going on in the school.

*Come to our monthly meetings which are on the third Tuesday of every month. A list of meeting dates can be found under the. “About the PA” tab.
